johnboy19 38
Well me n Scotty went up to the new permission for a bit of ferreting and feral bashing Scotts son came with us and so did one of my mates. Got there and ferreted some of the burrows, ended up with 4 rabbits. Link to my post in the ferreting forum http://www.thehuntinglife.com/forums/topic/174745-first-day-out-this-season/ Anyway once we finished the ferreting, we decided to have a quick go at the ferals then head to another ferreting permission, this plan soon changed as we had so much fun on the ferals When we got to the farm at first there was a lot of ferals on the ground around the farm building that flew away when we got out the car. When we went over with the guns the farmer came round to the barn with us, when we got there they all flew out the barn onto the roof of another farm building, just sitting there waiting to be sniped Scott had the first pop and bagged one, which got stuck on the roof. We told the farmer that it was likely a lot we shot would prob just get caught on the roof, because the way the roof was. He said that was fine, and that crows and other birds would prob get to them, or the foxes if they end up blowing off. So i went round the other side of the building with my mate and Scott stayed with his son. They kept coming in and landing, giving us the chance to pop one then they would go away again. After we got a few we ended up waiting a while and thought the got wise to us, we were going to call it a day until a load of them came back so it was game on. Continued shooting one at a time and waiting. Anyway we ended up shooting about 10 between us but only 1 actually rolled down from the roof. I took pics, not great but might as well put them up On the building on the left, on the lower, lighter coloured part of the roof, theres a feral right at the front about 2/3s up, dont think you will be able to make it out though Heres there is a feral between the 5th n 6th ridge on the roof but doubt you can make it out. It was even hard to tell it was there when i was out, i could only tell because i knew it was there Here you can see one on the far side half way up the bottom lighter coloured part of the roof End of day shot Anyway we had a great day and the farmer is happy for us to go back and have another go at rabbits and ferals in the coming weeks. I must admit, even though there wasnt much to shooting ferals, just waiting and shooting, i really enjoyed it Think next time we are going to try and decoy the pigeons down, maybe put out some grain and put a woody decoy out and hide and see if we can attract them down, anyone ever done this?
